Sales & Business Development Director San Francisco, CA

We are seeking a sales and business development director, who has an interest in health technology, parenting, and/or vertical social networks. We are looking for someone in the SF Bay Area who is willing to meet in person in San Francisco at least once a week for efficiency. As the 5th employee in a funded startup, you would have a massive impact and influence the future direction of the company.

Company is the the leading creator of mobile apps for parents and women. We make vertical social networks that utilize the best native features of the devices we carry with us everyday to make healthy living fun and more meaningful. Our apps have been leaders in the Health and Fitness categories of Apple’s App Store, Android Market, and HP/Palm webOS since 2009. We have over 3 million downloads, with over 1 million monthly active users, 25% of whom use our apps every day, which is an extraordinarily high sticky factor that makes us the most active parenting/women’s community on mobile. Our users are passionate about our products and use them more than Facebook. Instead of sharing 140-tidbits of what you ate for dinner or how drunk you got last night, we are enabling our users to capture and share life’s most important moments, from the test results that show you are pregnant, to contractions as you go into labor, to your child’s first walk.

We have been under the radar for the last 2 years, self-funded and profitable. We just raised our first round of funding from top-tier investors and are about to see explosive growth. We are about to launch a new product focused on capturing and sharing kids’ milestones (first walk, first talk, etc). Facebook started with college students. We have started with parents and are rocking it. To expand, we need your help.

We are looking for someone who’s savvy, creative, and self-motivated, with experience selling and creating relationships in the health and parenting arena — with an established contact list/network to show for it.

Desired Skills & Experience

Responsibilities

  • Identify, pitch, and close ad sales deals with agencies and advertisers.
  • Develop strong and mutually valuable relationships with advertisers. Prepare pitch materials as needed.
  • Create and manage pipeline with CRM tools for maximum efficiency and visibility, with carefully executed follow-up to closure.
  • Manage day-to-day operational processes including campaign set-up, receipt of creative or tags, trafficking, optimization and trouble-shooting, along with the advertising operations team.
  • Define efficient operational processes to execute business, and work closely with the founding team to see these processes turned into standard practices.
  • Manage successful client deployments and ensure ongoing high client satisfaction, renewal, and deep penetration of customer organizations for incremental business.
  • Define new monetization products and strategies
  • Develop relationships with mobile carriers, OEMs, and app stores to increase distribution and exposure

Minimum Job Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in advertising sales
  • 8+ years online business experience in sales & marketing, preferably in health or women-focused businesses.
  • Large range of existing relationships and contacts with top-tier agencies and advertisers.
  • High degree of creativity, self-motivation, and drive.
  • Critical business thinking skills with ability to innovate and strategize
  • Eagerness to work in a start-up team environment that will be rapidly changing.
  • Willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Direct agency experience, either as customer, partner or employee.
  • BS or BA required.
